Ozark Mountain Ziplines

February 28th, 2014 by babiesblog

Ozark Mountain Ziplines is located at 208 W. Van Buren St., Eureka Springs, Arkansas (Just across from the Best Western @ Myrtie Mae’s).

Experience the exhilarating thrill of a Zip Line Canopy Tour right in the heart of the beautiful, pristine Ozark Mountains at Eureka Springs, Arkansas. Soar through the air from up to 300+ feet high with cable lengths up to 2400 feet long over vast gorgeous, beautiful Ozark hardwood trees and limestone cliffs.

The Zip Line is designed to offer the highest degree of safety while providing large or small groups, families, and private parties an exhilarating outdoor fun and safe adventure. Their trained staff will operate and deliver 2 hours of fun per tour for any persons 3 years of age or older. They offer their services to single parties, couples or groups of any kind.

From a structural standpoint, the tree top canopy tour is a system of cables and platforms, wherein the participant “zips” through the treetops while connected to a secure cable harness and a safety strap. Wooden platforms suspended by cables serve as a landing base in each tree that you “zip” to and from on some cables and for others they launch from limestone cliffs with on-ground platforms. No wooden towers here! All natural and minimal hiking on clear-cut trails, finishing up at the bottom of the gorge where a heated or air-conditioned bus is waiting ready with beverages and smiling faces to take you back to the welcome center just minutes away.

About Ozark Mountain Ziplines:

Zip Line Canopy Tours first originated in Costa Rica as a way for people to experience the animal and plant life that are unique to the canopy of a rainforest. Ozark Mountain Zip Line’s hardwood forest canopy tour has its own bird, plant, and animal life, which their guided tour is designed to introduce you to as you glide along from tree to tree!

Their experience derives from 20 years of building & operating Zip Lines all over the world from as far south as Costa Rica, Ecuador, and all over the Continental United States and Canada. Their equipment and cables are inspected regularly as they always adhere to the highest of safety standards.

Cost: $89.00 + tax per person (Group/Family Rates available!)

Rules: Must wear shoes and preferably long pants but some shorts may work as long as they are fitted and long enough to pad harness. No Flip Flops, no alcohol and no negative attitudes… Shirts must be worn…

The Rolling Cafe

January 4th, 2014 by babiesblog

Recently we tried a new dining experience in Eureka Springs that you should consider adding to your things to do when visiting the town. Tom, our local horse-drawn carriage ride guide, has started a new adventure through the streets of Eureka Springs unlike any other in town. He started with one of the city’s retired trolleys, spent a whole lot of time modifying it to accommodate dinner tables and created Café Roulant. So, what’s with the name? Well, in French “roulant” means rolling, and that’s pretty much what this café does, rolls around town (albeit with a motor).

Rolling Cafe

The new “rolling cafe” – lunch or dinner!

The day before our dinner Tom posted the menu online so we could choose between three different entries. He has partnered with some great restaurants around town to provide the food for his lunches and dinners. Restaurants like DeVitos, FRESH Farm to Table Fresh, and he has mentioned starting up with the Cottage Inn and other locations around town.

For our meal, he had chosen FRESH Farm to Table Fresh. One of us had Home Made Meat Loaf with Mushroom Gravy and Honey-Lime Whipped Sweet Potatoes on a bed of Sautéed Spinach. It was incredible, the meatloaf just popped with a mouthful of flavor!! Our other selection was Charred Steak over Linguini, with Blistered Tomatoes, Garlic and fresh Basil & Arugula all Sautéed in a special sauce. Our meals started with a crisp salad as we left the parking lot. By the time we finished that, we had arrived at the restaurant where our food was brought on board and served. Then we sat back, enjoyed the food and watched the town roll by. Dessert was served and we headed back to the starting point of the dining experience. You can bring your own wine if you want and reservations are required.

So if you’re looking for something special and different for Valentines, this is just the ticket. And for a fabulous and unforgettable stay, be sure to pick a truly wonderful and unique bed and breakfast for your romantic getaway.

Slowing Down to Relax and Enjoy in Eureka Springs, AR

November 10th, 2013 by babiesblog

The winds of summer have blown their colors over the countryside and now we await the awesome time of year, when we get to relax a bit, enjoy family with fires in the fireplaces, hot chocolate and hot cider. This is the time of year when we pause for a moment to reflect on the goodness that has befallen our lives over the last 12 months. AND to anticipate, get excited and wait, wait, for CHRISTMAS. The shops in Eureka Springs will all be running especially wonderful sales, while there are so many activities to amaze, entertain, and enthuse.

Enjoy a toasty fire in your B&B room.

Enjoy a toasty fire in your B&B room.

On Nov 7, 8 , 9, and 10 we call forth Food and Wine Weekend. Most fine dining restaurants prepare a special meal with a coordinated wine that many of us can enjoy.

On Nov 9 you may want to take part in the Saturday gallery stroll in downtown art galleries. Many of the galleries have the artist displaying their works along with hors doeurves and – of course – wine.

Nov 16 and 17 we have the Fall Antique Show. This is an especially exciting display of hand-made items from the finest collection you can imagine, from aprons to bird houses, and cabinets. Come see the local talent that we have right here in our very own town. The show is at the Best Western Inn of the Ozarks in the converntion center and runs through Sunday also.

We would like to invite you (in case you haven’t heard our amazing community chorus) to a lovely evening of beautiful music. In November the concert is on Nov 16 at the Holiday Island Ballroom, 4:00 pm; December 12 at the Crescent Hotel at 6:30 pm, and the grand concert of them all is on December 14 in the Auditorium at 7:30. The music is unbelievable and the grand finale will be the chorus, plus choirs from many churches, school choirs and bands, and anyone in the audience who wants to sing. If everyone takes part, we will have over 1000 voices joining in the Hallelujah Chorus. This will be a moving event for all. Tickets available from any chorus member, or you may call Judie Lockhart at 888-624-6787.

We have quite a few restaurants in Eureka Springs that will be open Thanksgiving Day and offer a special feast, so don’t let that stop you from visiting.

Don’t forget the Christmas Sweet Treats Cookie Tour coming up on Dec 14, presented by the Bed and Breakfast Inns of Eureka Springs. Come enjoy fellowship, beautiful decorations and of course, SWEET TREATS. You get two samples at each of the nine different Victorian Bed and Breakfasts and the recipes. You’ll enjoy tours of each B&B, all decorated up for the holidays in their finest.

If you want to make the most of your time in Eureka Springs, take a carriage ride. You can actually look at all the glorious decorations and leave the driving to Michael, Hank, Blondie and Seymour. (Seymour will be debuting in the spring).

May Festival of the Arts in Eureka Springs

April 6th, 2013 by babiesblog

There’s more than one reason Eureka Springs, AR, is listed as one of the top 25 art destinations in the country and during the month of May, you can experience many of those reasons, visiting during the May Festival of the Arts. Don’t just read about it in the papers, come join in.

The month starts off on Saturday, May 4th, at 2:00 p.m. with the traditional ARTrageous Parade. See art themed floats, dogs in costumes and parade participants who have re-created themselves in different forms of art.

On Saturdays in May there will be a gallery stroll where galleries in town feature the work of different artists, with many of the artists on-site to talk to you.

On Wednesday nights, Robert R. Norman brings his Drink & Draw Art Jams to Chelsea’s. It’s like an open mic night, but for the visual artist. Robert brings art supplies you can buy for a $5 donation or bring your own supplies. Everyone is welcome and you don’t need to be an artist to participate. Best of all, you get to keep what you create.

On Friday, May 10th, from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm Pine Mountain Village will be having their spring craft show with all hand-crafted items.

The next Friday, May 17th, White Street Walk will be taking place. What started as a few artists opening up their homes and shops has turned into a much anticipated street fair of arts and crafts. If you have a style you are interested in, you’ll find it at White Street Walk.

A new event this year, the ARTrageous Street Fair will occur on May 25th in Basin Park. This event will be setup like a French style street fair where artists galore will be setting up their booths so you can delight in their artistic endeavors.

For music lovers, also on May 25th the four time Grammy nominees, Trout Fishing in America, will be performing in the band shell in the afternoon and the Auditorium at 7:00 pm. To quote from their website, “Their willingness to make fun of our most annoying and sometimes disgusting habits in one song, then touch our hearts with tender and passionate images of family life in the next, is what makes the connection between Trout Fishing in America and their audience so real.”

There’s a luxury Eureka Springs bed and breakfast near all of these activities – find one, book one and have one of the best times of your life!
