Eureka Springs is known for its art scene, but did you know we also have an art school? The Eureka Springs School of the Arts  holds workshops in visual arts and fine crafts every month for the interested, emerging or professional artist.  There are nearly fifty classes per year across all mediums for all ages and skill sets at the ESA campus.  Just a few to choose from are Digital Photography, Pit firing Ceramics, Split Oak Basket Weaving, and all forms of Painting and Drawing.

For the past four years, American Style magazine has named Eureka Springs as a “Top Twenty-five Arts Destination.” Downtown Eureka Springs Art Galleries represent more than 1,000 local, regional and national artists. Every month on the 2nd Saturday the galleries join forces for a gallery stroll from 6pm-8pm.

Also be sure to visit the Art Colony on North Main Street where you can find a collection of shops housing artists working and displaying their own creations. We are truly an art destination!

On Sunday, June 30th, as the sun slipped down behind the Ozark Mountains and dusk settled upon Eureka Springs, Eureka Shines! Grand Illumination 2013 commenced with a lighting ceremony on the great lawn of the Historic Crescent Hotel…and a  tradition continues that we hope will last for many years: recognizing Eureka Springs’ 134th Birthday and this year’s Luminary Of The Year, DonE Allen.

The Luminary of The Year is a recognition bestowed upon an individual from the greater Eureka Springs area for their selfless efforts towards the betterment of our community. DonE was recognized for the outstanding work he does to keep Eureka’s gardens, parks and springs beautiful.

Eureka Shines! Grand Illumination 2013 began Sunday, June 30th, as the Eureka Springs Preservation Society (ESPS) presented Grand Illumination.  In its third year, this two-week long event will decorate the Victorian village for the 4th of July, with thousands of Oriental silk and paper lanterns. Visitors and locals will enjoy the ornate architecture of Eureka Springs by night with the glow of lanterns adorning the historic downtown buildings, the springs and the porches of many homes.

Eureka Shines! Grand Illumination is held in conjunction with Eureka Springs’ July Calendar of Events, which includes a 4th of July parade, July 4th activities in Basin Park, and Fleur Delicious.

A $100 cash first prize, $75 cash second prize and $50 cash third prize will be awarded by the ESPS to the “Best Decorated House’” or “Best Decorated Business”. Winners will be announced during the July 4th weekend celebration. All houses and businesses had to be decorated by Sunday, June 30, to be eligible for the contest.

Eureka Shines! Grand Illumination Contest Winners announcement party will be held on Wednesday, July 3, at 8pm at Eureka Live, 35 North Main.

Many of the properties of Bed and Breakfast Inns of Eureka Springs will be decorated with these lovely lanterns, so check for availability now to stay in one of these lovely inns! All are in our lovely historic district, so come enjoy Eureka Springs in the summertime!
